Why the Democratic Party Has Concealed its Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: An Analysis.

The move by the DNC to suppress the public viewing of its internal post-election analysis on the last presidential race seems stunning yet not surprising. Averse to unpleasant candor, the party's leadership apparatus often functions more like a PR firm than an electoral entity devoted to cultivating grassroots capacities for winning elections.

An Environment of Conformity

Unwilling to challenge the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the committee has continued within that legacy throughout this past year. Making public an official autopsy might have shown that the leadership actually want to promote open debate about the missteps which allowed Donald Trump to return to the White House. Yet, the leadership is moving forward as if there is little to understand from the tragic debacle of 2024.

"Here’s our North Star: will this lead to victory? Should the answer be negative, it becomes a sideline issue from the core mission," a rationale reportedly given to justify concealing the analysis.

Major Failures a Report Might Have Examined

An autopsy report of substance would tackle head-on key points of failure. Among them are:

  • Voter Alienation: The loss among a significant portion of the electorate that backed the party's candidate during the previous election proved pivotal in the close recent race.
  • The Insistence to Seek Re-election: The unwavering insistence of the incumbent to seek re-election, coupled with an extremely delayed step-aside, has been criticized as denying the party's base the chance for a competitive nomination process.
  • Losing Touch With Everyday Americans: During a time of rising costs, the campaign allegedly ceding to elite contributors and not managing to confront the impact of profit-seeking.
  • A Foreign Policy Impact: The failure to adjust a stance regarding a ongoing war reportedly led to driving away many voters, especially among youth voters, Arab American communities, Muslim voters.
  • A Decline in Youth Support: Extensive evidence shows a huge drop-off in votes for the candidate from young voters.

A Pattern of Evasion

The decision to withhold fits a longstanding habit of sidestepping hard truths. This mirrors an episode where the vast majority of elected Democrat in Congress acquiesced to a sitting president's decision for seeking another term until a disastrous televised debate compelled a reversal.

At the same time, large majorities within the party's base had been repeatedly informing researchers that they did not want that candidate to be the nominee.

Financial Concerns

A substantive autopsy could probe matters regarding campaign spending, including the amounts were directed to party strategists as well as ad buyers over the course of a campaign that managed to spend a staggering sum over a few months.

The Underlying Problem

Fundamentally, the suppression of the official autopsy highlights an allegiance toward party leaders responsible for an unsuccessful national race. The signal to the party's base – which includes millions of loyal volunteers – is that they do not be trusted to understand what the leadership claim to have learned based on a report drawing from conversations with insiders.

A political entity unable to honestly assess its own failings is unlikely to climb out of the rut that ended up being so helpful to their opponents.
