A person who spiked candy with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two boys aged nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight youngsters and a grown-up became sick at the facility in the summer month.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was kept in jail prior to a further hearing on November 28th.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, detailed the defendant's actions to the court.
She stated his targets were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he operated.
The defendant conducted a "candy game" with the children, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".
She told the court the man had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the next day.
She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had suspicions in summer 2025.
The legal representative stated further: "Recently" his family member had concerns about what was going on, justifiably.
"They decided to have a look in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel explained materials including baby oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were found, and his family member notified the law enforcement about his worries.
She explained the man continued to play the "treat game" with six youngsters that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that time," she stated further.
The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The legal representative said the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the law enforcement again.
She explained Ruben then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five youngsters.
